In the ever-evolving landscape of technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force, reshaping how we live, work, and connect. Nowhere is this impact more profound than in the realm of smartphones, where AI is poised to revolutionize the Kenyan consumer experience.

For instance, OPPO, a leading smartphone manufacturer, plans to take the AI revolution to the next level in 2024. The company is collaborating with Hasselblad to co-develop the next generation of HyperTone Camera Systems for future OPPO phones, promising a new era in computational photography with AI-powered photos. This year will see all new OPPO devices have the new ColorOS to enhance user experience.

The HyperTone Camera System, which will be available in the upcoming Reno 11 Pro, will improve clarity by 30% and reduce noise by 60% using AI RAW fusion, backed by a new algorithm that requires 400% more computing power. The camera system includes the HyperTone Pro XDR Display, which offers up to eight times more dynamic range on-screen, improved portrait mode shots with better skin tones, and a more cinematic bokeh effect.

The Oppo Find X7 series is expected to be the first to feature this camera system. In addition to the camera system, OPPO is also planning to integrate AI algorithms into its smartphones to enhance user experience and address unique local challenges. +AIGC: “GenAI object removal” feature on Find X7 series which took over the social media by its insane performance. With the Find X7 series, OPPO has embraced generative AI for its smartphones. Thanks to the 7-billion-parameter LLM of AndesGPT, the Find X7 series brings AI functions such as natural language comprehension and phone call content summary.

With the device-side and cloud-side LLMs working together, the Find X7 can also implement AIGC elimination, providing a new experience for image editing functions. What’s more, LLM is also combined with voice assistant to provide practical AI functions such as text to image, picture to text, and text content summary.

One of the most tangible benefits Kenyan consumers can expect is the personalization of their smartphone experience. AI algorithms analyze user behaviour, preferences, and patterns to tailor the device’s functionality to individual needs. Your smartphone becomes an intuitive companion, anticipating your actions and providing a seamless, personalized experience. Whether suggesting the most relevant apps, optimizing battery usage, or customizing camera settings based on your photography habits, AI ensures your smartphone is uniquely yours.

Through the use Trinity engine in the new ColorOS14, users are able to get ROM , RAM and CPU Vitalization and through this, each OPPO device with ColorOS 14 operating system will be assured  of efficient and all round performing device. Packed with new underlying infrastructure and algorithms, ColorOS 14 brings you more intelligent, more intuitive, and more secure features for the smoothest experience yet on OPPO devices.

smart touch: AI-powered Smart Touch enables users to select content like text, images, and videos from the system and third-party apps 2 and collect them on the File Dock, or even consolidate them into a single note by simple select and drag gestures.

smart image matting: Smart Image Matting is a feature that enables users to crop multiple subjects like persons and animals out from a single image or paused video for the first time on any smartphone. Users can edit the cutouts in the File Pocket, File Dock, and split screen mode, as well as share with friends or use the cutouts to personalize a wallpaper or poster.

Notably, in response to the growing demand for  AI application, OPPO began constructing its own large-scale data center in Jan 2020. The data center has the computing power and bandwidth to facilitate large scale data processing and support OPPO’s hardware and software engineering. With OPPO’s increasing investment in AI, the data center also provides strong computing power to perform AI tasks and develop AI solutions.

Beyond personalization, the use of AI in smartphones has the potential to address critical challenges faced by Kenyan consumers. Take, for instance, the issue of language diversity. Kenya boasts a rich tapestry of languages and dialects, and AI can play a pivotal role in breaking down communication barriers. Smartphones with advanced language processing capabilities can facilitate real-time translation, making communication more inclusive and fostering excellent connectivity among Kenya’s diverse population.

For the Kenyan consumer, the infusion of AI into smartphones heralds a new era of possibilities, with smartphone producers like OPPO embracing the technological revolution and working to bring the benefits of AI to the fingertips of every Kenyan. With responsible development and a commitment to user-centric innovation, smartphone AI is not just a feature; it’s a promise of a brighter, more connected future for Kenya.
