Airtel Money Kenya has launched a new digital wallet aimed at helping small business owners separate their business income from personal money and track their daily transactions more effectively.
Dubbed Bizna Wallet, the service targets kiosk owners, market traders, boda boda riders, matatu operators and other micro and small enterprises that rely heavily on mobile money payments.
The wallet allows business owners to receive payments from different mobile money networks, monitor sales, access mini statements and manage their cash flow through a dedicated business account.
It also includes safeguards against unauthorised transaction reversals, a challenge that can expose traders to losses after goods or services have already been delivered.
Speaking during the launch, Airtel Money Kenya Acting Managing Director Michael Bonke said the product was developed to address the day-to-day financial management challenges facing small businesses.
“Small businesses are at the heart of Kenya’s economy, yet many entrepreneurs still rely on personal wallets to manage business finances,” Bonke said.
He noted that separating business and personal money would give entrepreneurs greater visibility over their income and expenses while supporting more stable operations.
The launch comes as more Kenyan businesses embrace cashless payments. According to the Mastercard SME Confidence Index, 95 per cent of small and medium-sized enterprises in Kenya accept mobile payments.
However, many traders still use the same mobile money wallet for household spending and business transactions, making it difficult to monitor profits, control expenditure and maintain clear financial records.
Airtel Money also announced the expansion of its Rudishiwa cashback programme, which will now offer users cash rewards on selected transactions.
Customers will receive 50 per cent cashback on eligible services, including Paybill payments, transfers to other mobile money networks, bank-to-wallet transactions and transfers from Airtel Money to bank accounts.
Unlike previous rewards that were issued as airtime, the new cashback will be credited as money into a dedicated Cashback Wallet.
Customers can then transfer the funds to their main Airtel Money wallet and use them for other transactions.
“Initially, we had airtime rewards, and now we have introduced real cash rewards that go into your cashback wallet for every eligible transaction,” Bonke stated.
The cashback programme is available to all registered Airtel Money customers who make qualifying transactions of at least KSh101.
Users will not be required to register or opt into the programme, with the rewards set to be credited instantly after an eligible transaction.
The Cashback Wallet can be accessed through the *334# USSD code and the My Airtel App.
