Gacharage Primary School in Kiambu county has benefited from facilities worth Kshs 5Million from Carrefour.

Through the project which has been implemented under Carrefour’s corporate social responsibility initiative ‘Round Up Your Bill’ with the support of its customers, the company has constructed a modern kitchen, hand washing stations, book racks, a 5,000-litre water tank and installation of a solar water pumping system.

“We are thankful to our customers who have continued to support the “Round Up Your Bill initiative’. Which has enabled us to raise enough funds to improve the welfare of the students at Garachage Primary School, providing them with access to clean water and daily meals. We remain committed to playing a critical role in communities across the country with similar social protection initiatives.” Said Christophe Orcet, Regional Director of Carrefour – East Africa, Majid Al Futtaim Retail.

Through the initiative, customers can volunteer to round up their shopping bill by a few shillings and donate towards providing essentials for local communities. ‘Round Up Your Bill’ is available across all Carrefour stores in the country.

“We are cognisant of the intricate link between nutrition, hygiene and sanitation and learning outcomes. With the kitchen catering for the children’s meals and the ease in accessing clean water, the students will have a good learning environment and improved performance.” Joseph Karuma, said Head Teacher, Gacharage Primary School

Currently, Carrefour operates 20 stores across the country, with a presence in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.
