East African Breweries PLC (EABL) has reported a 49% increase in profit after tax for the financial year ended June 30, 2026, driven by stronger revenues, higher sales volumes, cost-management initiatives and lower financing costs.

The regional brewer said profit after tax rose to Ksh 18.2 billion, while net revenue increased by 13% year-on-year to Ksh 146 billion, supported by strong momentum across its beer and spirits businesses.

EABL also reduced its total debt by Ksh 4.8 billion during the year, strengthening its balance sheet and contributing to lower interest costs.

The Ksh 4.8 billion figure is the corrected total debt reduction, replacing the Ksh 6.2 billion figure contained in the earlier results communication.

The company said its performance came despite a challenging consumer environment across East Africa, with affordability pressures persisting in some markets. However, relatively stable currencies, contained inflation and a conducive interest-rate environment helped support business conditions during the year.

EABL Group Managing Director and CEO Jane Karuku said the brewer delivered one of its strongest performances in recent years, supported by volume growth, effective cost management and reduced financing costs.

The improved financial performance was also reflected in shareholder returns. EABL’s share price rose 43% to close at Ksh 269 as of June 30, 2026, according to the company.

The Board of Directors has recommended a final dividend of Ksh 8.70 per share, subject to withholding tax. This brings the total dividend for the year to Ksh 12.70 per share, representing a 59% increase from the previous financial year.

Looking ahead, EABL said it remains optimistic about its growth prospects despite continued pressure on consumer spending and fiscal challenges in some markets. The brewer said its diversified portfolio, market-leading brands and regional footprint leave it well positioned to pursue further growth opportunities.

The company operates primarily in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, with its products sold in more than 10 countries across Africa and beyond. Its portfolio includes brands such as Tusker, Guinness, Bell Lager, Serengeti, Kenya Cane, Chrome, Johnnie Walker, Captain Morgan and Smirnoff.
