European Union Contributes Over Sh35 Billion To Kenya’s Response to COVID-19

Team Europe, comprising the EU, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Sweden and Denmark have put together a package of crisis-support of over Sh16bn (EUR 140 million) to bolster food security in Kenya and neighbouring countries at a time of crisis due to COVID-19.

At least Sh2.4bn (EUR 21 million) of this support will go to Kenya. This support includes the help for farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs, assistance in the fight against locusts, humanitarian aid and epidemic control measures.

The EU is contributing Sh35bn to Kenya’s response to COVID-19 whilst EU Member States have already provided Sh3.3bn (EUR 28.2 million) – that figure continues to increase.

This collective support by Team Europe is a statement of Europe’s friendship and partnership with Kenya in these difficult global times,
