Covid-19 discounted mobile internet data bundles for university students and faculty
Moi University has announced it has closed a deal with Safaricom and Telkom to offer discounted mobile internet data to maintain continuity of its core business of teaching and research.
In this, the University students and staff will be able to engage in remote learning, teaching and related support services.
In a MEMO Ref MU/ICT/INT/20 dated 18th May 2020, Dr Joyce K. Komen Director of ICT said the directorate held discussions with the mobile service providers and agreed on the following offers:
- Safaricom 10 GB for Shs 500 pre-paid
- Telkom 10 GB for Shs 499 postpaid, with a requirement to buy a sim card and pay a deposit of Shs 499. Scaling up the bundles is possible.
This initiative comes as a result of the current unprecedented COVID–19 pandemic that has made it inevitable to change the way the University conducts business.

The bundles will only be used to access whitelisted educational websites such as eLibrary, Staff portals, Student portals, MUSOMI and not Social media.
