Kenya’s 3rd President Mwai Kibaki dies at the age of 90, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced on Friday.
Emilio Stanley Mwai Kibaki better known as Mwai Kibaki, was a Kenyan politician who served as the third President of Kenya from December 2002 until April 2013.
“May the family of the late Mwai Kibaki be comforted, his memory honored and his example emulated”, said Pres. Uhuru Kenyatta on the passing of the third President of Kenya.
He had previously served as the fourth Vice-President of Kenya for ten years from 1978 to 1988 under President Daniel arap Moi.
On his death, president Uhuru Kenyatta declares a national mourning period in memory of the late Mwai Kibaki from today until sunset on the day of his interment.
Kibaki was born on 15 November 1931 (age 90 years), Gatuyaini.
His siblings are Esther Waitherero, Bernard Nderitu, Samuel Githinji Kibaki, Philip Muriithi Kibaki.
Kibaki went to Nyeri high school (1939–1946), Managu High school and later to Makerere University for his education.
He married Lucy Kibaki (m. 1961–2016). They were blessed with five children; Jimmy Kibaki, Wangui Mwai, Tony Kibaki, David Kibaki, Judy Kibaki.
