The value of companies listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange crossed KES 3 trillion for the first time in 2025, marking a significant milestone for Kenya’s capital markets.

The Capital Markets Authority disclosed the figure in its Annual Supervision Report 2025, which outlines major developments, market performance and regulatory changes during the year.

Assets managed outside collective investment schemes, including pension, insurance and wealth-management funds, stood at KES 4.1 trillion.

Collective investment schemes held a further KES 756.2 billion, while the country’s 289 licensed and approved capital-markets institutions reported combined assets of KES 40.9 billion.

Eight corporate bonds remained listed on the market, with a combined value of KES 96.5 billion.

Income earned by licensed capital-markets intermediaries increased by 56% to KES 29.8 billion, up from KES 19.1 billion in 2024.

Fund managers generated KES 17.9 billion, accounting for approximately 60% of the industry’s total income. Sanlam Allianz Investments led the category with income of KES 3.4 billion.

Investment banks recorded the fastest growth, with their income increasing by 89% to KES 7.6 billion.

Standard Investment Bank topped the category with income of KES 1.7 billion, while Faida Investment Bank recorded a 508% increase to KES 854 million.

Stockbrokers generated KES 947 million, representing growth of 10%. Non-dealing online foreign-exchange brokers were the only category to report a decline, with their income falling by 5% to KES 2.4 billion.

CMA also enacted two pieces of legislation, issued four circulars and transitioned four firms from its regulatory sandbox into mainstream regulation during the year.
