In a somber announcement, Namibia is plunged into mourning with the passing of its revered leader, H.E Dr. Hage G. Geingob, who succumbed to illness at Lady Pohamba Hospital in the early hours of Sunday, February 4, 2024.

President Geingob, 79, was receiving medical treatment from his dedicated medical team, with his wife, Madame Monica Geingos, and children by his side. Despite their valiant efforts to secure his recovery, the nation now grapples with the loss of a distinguished statesman and a pivotal figure in Namibia’s history.

In a statement, Acting President H.E. Dr. Nangolo Mbumba expressed deep regret, describing President Geingob as a “servant of the people, a liberation struggle icon, and the chief architect of our constitution.” The nation is urged to remain calm as the government initiates state arrangements, preparations, and other necessary protocols. Further announcements on these matters are expected.
