Old Mutual General Insurance Kenya’s agent Beatrice Kariuki was named General Insurance Person of the Year at the 2026 Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) Awards held in Nairobi on Friday evening.

Ms. Kariuki, a Financial Advisor with OMGIK, emerged among the top-performing nominees recognized for her outstanding contribution to growing the uptake of general insurance in Kenya. The award recognizes insurance professionals who demonstrate excellence in customer service, innovation, and business growth within the general insurance sector. She secured the highest aggregate weighted points nationally for policy count and premiums sold. In addition, she won the Premium Volume category for achieving the highest points in new business across the country and was named second runner-up in the Emerging Insurance Markets category for recording the second-highest sales across 12 emerging markets.

In 2025, Beatrice facilitated the sale of a significant volume of insurance policies across key product lines, including motor, medical, SME, corporate, and personal insurance, such as domestic packages. Her portfolio spans individual customers, small and medium-sized enterprises, and corporate clients, helping them protect their assets, safeguard their health, and support business continuity.

“We are proud of Beatrice for this remarkable achievement. Her dedication to serving customers and helping them secure theprotection they need reflects the professionalism and impact our advisors bring to the industry,” said Japheth Ogalloh, Managing Director Old Mutual General Insurance Kenya.

Other winners included Dorcas Awino, who took home the Personal Accident (PA) Product Category Award and was also recognized among the Top Twenty Agents nationwide. Stephen Mogaka won the Emerging Insurance Markets category, while Sylvia Kajwiri was honored for her consistent performance, earning a place among the Top Twenty Agents in the country.

The annual AKI Awards recognize outstanding professionals and institutions contributing to the growth of Kenya’s insurance sector.

Old Mutual General Insurance continues to expand its insurance solutions across key sectors, including agriculture, SMEs, retail, and corporate clients, while also responding to emerging risks such as climate-related events and evolving business needs, supported by a growing network of advisors and digital distribution platforms.
