The following story is a compilation of an investigative story that aired on NTV Kenya on Sunday, 12th February, 2023.
The story covers the mysterious death of Robert Ouko, a powerful minister during the reign of Late President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi.
Robert Ouko was Kisumu town MP and Kenya’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation when he was assassinated on the night of 12th and early morning of 13th February 1990.
Ouko was first involved in a suspicious accident at Awasi on his way home which he escaped unhurt.
A few days later he was abducted from his home on the night of February 12th 1009. Unfortunately, four days later his body was found at the foothill of Got Alila.
Government pathologist Jason Kaviti had concluded suicide as the cause of Ouko’s death but when the Scotland Yard detectives assessed the remains their verdict was a resounding no.
It was an assassination.
Who killed Robert Ouko?
A five-litre jerrican, a matchbox, pair of gumboots, a five-cell torch that was still switched on, a briefcase, a walking stick, and a jacket that had a pistol were items that were found beside Ouko’s burning body.
As to why he was killed remains a mystery.
