Pata More na Safaricom

If you have recently heard Safaricom talking about Pata More, it is easy to assume it is a new product. It is not.

The Safaricom Pata More campaign is a wider customer value proposition bringing together a number of offers across data, M-PESA, devices, fibre and business services under one idea: giving customers more value from products they already use.

Safaricom officially launched Pata More in July, describing it as a way for customers to get more data, savings, convenience and value across its ecosystem.

What does Safaricom Pata More offer?

For ordinary mobile users, some of the clearest changes are in data.

Under the campaign, the KSh20 daily data bundle increased from 150MB to 250MB, while the KSh99 bundle increased from 1GB to 1.5GB. The KSh1,000 monthly bundle also increased from 10GB to 21.5GB.

For M-PESA users and small businesses, Pata More also focuses on reducing the cost of everyday payments.

Pochi la Biashara customers can make payments of up to KSh200 without a transaction charge during the offer period, while Safaricom has also raised the Lipa na M-PESA Buy Goods Kadogo threshold from KSh200 to KSh500. This means merchants can receive qualifying smaller payments without a collection fee.

The campaign also includes newer payment options such as Scan to Pay and Tap to Pay.

Who benefits from Pata More?

The campaign is deliberately broad.

Customers who mainly use Safaricom for data get bigger bundles. Small traders get cheaper ways to receive payments. Businesses using M-PESA Tills benefit from reduced transaction costs, while drivers and boda boda riders have targeted packages combining connectivity with services they use for work.

Farmers are also included through Bundle Ya Wakulima, which combines connectivity with insurance, agricultural information, input support and other services. Safaricom says the package was designed around how farmers communicate and make day-to-day decisions.

Why is Safaricom doing this?

The bigger picture is competition for customer value.

Kenyan consumers are already deeply connected to mobile money, data and digital services. The challenge for Safaricom is therefore not simply getting people online or onto M-PESA, but giving them stronger reasons to keep using its wider ecosystem.

Pata More reflects that shift. Instead of launching one standalone product, Safaricom is packaging improvements across services people already understand and use.

For customers, the test will ultimately be simple: whether “Pata More” genuinely means paying less, getting more or making everyday transactions easier.

That is where the campaign will either prove its value or remain just another marketing slogan.
