Top South African female comedian, actress, TV personality, and writer, Tumi Morake is lined up to perform in Kenya at a groundbreaking Women’s Only Comedy Special, titled “Girls Aloud,” hosted by Punchline Comedy club and Gilbeys Gin in celebration of International Women’s Month.

The event will take place at a Gala night on the 9th March, at the Lewis Leaky Auditorium followed by a Matinee at The Two Grapes Bar and Restaurant on the 10th.

Tumi will share the stage with the sensational Tanzanian comic, Neyla Manga, whose distinctive blend of humour and wit has captivated audiences worldwide, Ciru Mwangi from Kenya, voted Breakout Comedian of 2023, whose relatable style has endeared her to audiences across Kenya, Shazz Nderitu, Ng’endo, fondly known as Mama Ngina, and Gaya Marina Garbaruk, originally from South Africa.

“Empowering women and promoting inclusivity within the entertainment industry have always been core values for Gilbey’s Gin. ‘Girls Aloud’ isn’t just a comedy special; it’s a testament to the incredible talent and creativity of women in comedy. We believe in providing platforms that amplify diverse voices and perspectives, and this event reflects that commitment. Our partnership with Punchline aims to inspire laughter, spark conversations, and ultimately, drive positive change in our society. We’re proud to stand alongside these remarkable comedians and play a role in shaping a more inclusive and vibrant entertainment landscape.” Said Zipporah Ndung’u, Gilbeys Brand Manager, EABL.

Gilbeys and Punchline comedy club have enjoyed a successful partnership since the start of the year, bringing weekly comedy nights to the city of Nairobi with two successful ticketed specials as well.

“As the founder of Punchline Comedy Club, I’ve always believed in the power of laughter to transcend boundaries and bring people together. ‘Girls Aloud’ represents a significant milestone in our journey to promote diversity and representation in comedy. This collaboration with Gilbey’s Gin not only highlights the immense talent of women comedians but also underscores the importance of creating inclusive spaces within the entertainment industry. Through laughter, we break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, and celebrate the rich tapestry of human experience. I am truly excited to witness the laughter and camaraderie that ‘Girls Aloud’ will inspire.” Said Eric Lu Sava, Founder Punchline Comedy Club

Tumi Morake is renowned for her groundbreaking achievements having made history in 2018 as the first African woman to feature in her own Netflix special. Additionally, she holds the distinction of being the inaugural female host of Comedy Central Presents in Africa.

As part of Gilbey’s ongoing efforts to enhance the entertainment landscape and empower women in the industry, “Girls Aloud” promises to deliver an unforgettable evening of laughter and celebration.
