Uber has updated its Terms of Use for users in Kenya, effective from 15 January 2025. The changes are designed to improve user experience and clarify roles and responsibilities for both the company and its customers.
Here are the key highlights of the updated terms:
1. User Accounts
- Users must register and maintain an active account to access Uber’s services.
- Registration requires personal information such as your name, address, mobile number, age, and a valid payment method.
- Keeping your account information up-to-date is mandatory; failure to do so may result in restricted access or account termination.
- Each user is allowed only one account.
2. User Conduct and Requirements
- Only individuals aged 18 and above can use Uber’s services.
- Users cannot allow others to use their account or allow minors under 18 to travel unaccompanied.
- All users must comply with Kenyan laws and avoid causing nuisance or damage to service providers or others.
- Proof of identity may be required, and refusal can lead to denied access.
3. Communication via Text Messages
- By creating an account, you agree to receive text messages related to Uber services.
- You can opt out of these messages, but this may limit your ability to use some features of the service.
4. Promotional Codes
- Uber offers promotional codes for discounts or credits.
- Codes must be used lawfully and cannot be transferred, sold, or duplicated without permission.
- Uber reserves the right to disable codes and deny benefits if misuse is detected.
5. User-Submitted Content
- Any content you submit (e.g., reviews or feedback) gives Uber the right to use, modify, and share it.
- Ensure you own the content or have the rights to share it.
- Prohibited content includes anything defamatory, violent, obscene, or illegal.
6. Network Access and Devices
- Users are responsible for obtaining data access to use the app. Mobile carrier charges may apply.
- Compatible devices and software are necessary to access the platform, and Uber does not guarantee the app will work on all devices.
