Uhuru Lifts Cessation of Movement in and out of ‘Disease infected’ Zone

During his address during the 2021 Labour Day, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced Public Order No 3 of 2021, which lifted cessation of movement in and out of Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Kajiado, and Machakos counties effective Saturday, May 1, midnight.

These counties were zoned into one ‘Disease infected’ area and placed under a partial lockdown on March 26, following a spike in COVID-19 infection rate in the regions.

“With regard to the zoned area comprising of the counties of Nairobi, Machakos, Kiambu, Kajiado, and Nakuru, it is directed that the cessation of movement into and out of the Zoned area be and is hereby lifted,” said President Uhuru.

At the same time, the curfew hours in the zoned area will begin from 10 pm, and end at 4 am and not between 8 pm and 4 am.

The president emphasised the need for every citizen to step up together for the country, families, and neighbours by observing the laid down health protocols.

“The containment measures we have instituted today and all the interventions that the government has made over the last 14 months are geared towards responding to the unprecedented health threat that has gripped the world. We have instituted those containment measures and restrictions with no joy,” he said.
