The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has announced the official assumption of office by Léandre Bassolé as Director General of its Regional Office for Development, Integration, and Business Delivery for Central Africa.

Bassolé presented his letters of introduction on 27 August to Oumarou Chinmoun, Secretary General at Cameroon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representing Minister Lejeune Mbella Mbella. Their discussions underscored the Bank’s strategic role in supporting national and sub-regional development initiatives.

On 28 August, Bassolé was received by Cameroon’s Minister of Economy, Planning, and Regional Development, Alamine Ousmane Mey, who also serves as AfDB Governor for Cameroon. Talks focused on the progress of 24 ongoing projects in the country worth about 2.2 billion US dollars, with priority areas including transport, energy, and agriculture.

Bassolé reiterated the Bank’s commitment to strengthen its presence, accelerate project implementation, and enhance impact across the seven Central African countries under the regional office’s coverage.

The AfDB portfolio in Central Africa currently includes 130 operations valued at over 5 billion US dollars, of which Cameroon hosts 24 projects aligned with the country’s National Development Strategy 2030.
