The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) on Friday released the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results, marking a major shift in how candidates will access their scores.
Unlike previous years, candidates will not be able to check their results via the SMS short code. Instead, the results are available exclusively online through the KNEC website.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba said candidates can access their results by visiting the KNEC website and following the provided link, or directly through the URL https://results.knec.ac.ke/.
“Individual 2025 KCSE candidates’ examination results will be accessed online through a link on the KNEC website or directly via the URL,” CS Ogamba said.
To access the results, candidates are required to enter their index number and any one of their registered names, accept the privacy and access notice, and then search for their results.
KNEC confirmed that the results would be available immediately after their official release by the Education Cabinet Secretary. CS Ogamba announced the results at AIC Chebisas High School in Eldoret.
“Checking of KCSE examination provisional results will be available after the release of the KCSE results,” KNEC said in a statement.
The KNEC Chief Executive Officer urged candidates and schools to channel all result-related queries through heads of institutions within 30 days of the release. Queries submitted after the 30-day window will attract a fee.
“Queries lodged after 30 days will attract a fee. Congratulations to all the candidates!” the CEO said.
In a move aimed at addressing longstanding concerns over withheld certificates, the Ministry of Education has introduced a new system under which candidates will collect their KCSE certificates from sub-county education offices rather than their former schools.
A total of 993,000 candidates sat the national examination last year across examination centres countrywide.
The 2025 KCSE examinations were administered between October 21 and November 14, 2025, involving more than 110,000 personnel, including centre managers, supervisors, invigilators, and officers from the Ministries of Education and Interior.
CS Ogamba praised the discipline and commitment of the examination officials, noting that many reported to examination containers by 7am daily, with some arriving as early as 4am or 5am to ensure timely distribution of examination materials.
He also highlighted special efforts made to support candidates who were hospitalised during the examination period, ensuring that “every willing learner got a chance to sit their papers despite personal challenges.”
