Naivas Supermarkets has opened a new store at Newgate Square in Kamakis, Ruiru, as the retailer expands its presence in one of Kiambu County’s fastest-growing residential and commercial areas.
The new outlet becomes part of Naivas’ nationwide network of more than 110 stores and marks another milestone in the company’s 36 years of operation in Kenya.
Located within the Newgate Square development, the store will serve residents of Kamakis and surrounding areas, including young professionals, families, students, entrepreneurs and commuters travelling along the busy Eastern Bypass corridor.
The outlet offers fresh produce, a butchery, bakery, delicatessen and ready-to-eat meals. Customers will also have access to groceries, household goods, electrical appliances, cookware, clothing, health and beauty products, baby-care items and other lifestyle products.
Naivas Chief Executive Officer Andreas von Paleske said the opening reflects the retailer’s strategy of growing alongside emerging communities and bringing essential products closer to customers.
“Opening this store during our 36th year is an important milestone in the Naivas journey. It reflects the trust that Kenyan families have placed in us over three and a half decades and our commitment to continue growing alongside them,” von Paleske said.
He said every new outlet represents a commitment to offer customers fresh products, quality, variety and affordable prices.
“Kamakis is one of Kenya’s fastest-growing residential and commercial corridors, and we are delighted to become part of its everyday life. As Kenya grows, we will continue investing in communities, ensuring more families have a Naivas nearby whenever they need us,” he added.
The opening ceremony was led by von Paleske and attended by Retail Trade Association of Kenya Chief Executive Officer Wambui Mbarire and Kevian Kenya Group Director for Sales and Marketing Polycarp Igathe.
Naivas said the new branch would also support economic activity in the area by creating jobs and strengthening relationships with farmers, manufacturers, distributors and other suppliers.
The supermarket is the first major retailer to begin operations at Newgate Square, positioning it as an anchor tenant in the new commercial development.
According to the retailer, the investment by Newgate Square’s developers is expected to help establish the property as a shopping destination for residents, businesses and visitors in Kamakis.
Customers who prefer digital shopping will also be able to order through Naivas’ online platform and have their purchases delivered to their homes or workplaces.
The retailer said its continued expansion is guided by rising demand for convenient shopping options close to where Kenyans live and work.
Naivas began as a single neighbourhood supermarket before growing into one of Kenya’s largest retail chains.
