Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) have jointly announced that the upcoming Galaxy S24 Ultra devices will come equipped with Corning’s latest Corning® Gorilla® Armor cover material. This advanced material offers an exceptional blend of durability and visual clarity, resulting in a more vibrant display even in sunlight and enhanced protection against daily wear and tear.

Kwangjin Bae, EVP and Head of the Mechanical R&D Team at Samsung Electronics, highlighted the collaborative success between Corning’s Gorilla Glass and the Galaxy S series in driving innovation and achieving more excellent durability. He emphasized the confidence and peace of mind this partnership brings users.

Corning® Gorilla® Armor stands out as a unique smartphone cover material, reducing reflection by up to 75% compared to typical glass surfaces. This reduction enhances display readability and minimizes screen reflections in various environments.

In lab tests, Gorilla Armor exhibited superior durability compared to competitive aluminosilicate cover glasses. A new lab test, the “Scratch Bot,” was introduced to replicate micro scratches from everyday use, where Gorilla Armor showed no visible scratches and demonstrated over four times more scratch resistance than its competitors.

Notably, Gorilla Armor incorporates an average of 25% pre-consumer recycled content, aligning with sustainability goals.

David Velasquez, Vice President and General Manager of Corning® Gorilla® Glass, expressed how Gorilla Armor combines Corning’s research and engineering with Samsung’s user-centric design. This innovation addresses the increasing need for durability and improved optics in mobile phones.

The collaboration between Samsung and Corning has spanned 50 years, beginning in 1973 when they partnered to make televisions more accessible to consumers in Korea. This enduring relationship has brought Corning® Gorilla® Glass to various Samsung devices, from early Galaxy smartphones to recent models like the Galaxy S23 Series, Galaxy Z Fold5, and Galaxy Z Flip5.

The launch of Galaxy S24 Ultra devices with Gorilla Armor marks another milestone in this longstanding partnership, continuing their commitment to creating cutting-edge innovations for mobile consumers.
