Canon will once again spotlight the power of photojournalism this September as it marks its 36th year of partnership with the prestigious Visa pour l’Image festival in Perpignan. Running from 1 to 6 September, the festival’s Pro Week will see Canon champion independent storytelling, offer professional support, and honour outstanding contributions with two coveted project grants.
This year’s Canon Female Photojournalist Grant has been awarded to French photojournalist Marion Péhée for her long-term work on the lives of Ukrainian youth growing up in conflict. The €8,000 grant will allow her to revisit the teenagers she first met a decade ago and deepen her exploration of life on the frontline.
Meanwhile, the Canon Video Grant goes to Shiho Fukada, a photojournalist and filmmaker whose short documentary Echoes of Little Tokyo will delve into the story of a Japanese American family funeral home in Los Angeles. Her work captures themes of legacy and displacement in one of the United States’ most endangered historic neighbourhoods.
Canon will also present a special exhibition of images from the upcoming Reuters book In the Moment, a retrospective of 40 years of Reuters photojournalism. The collection, printed by Canon and displayed at the Palais des Congrès, includes defining images from global events and quiet scenes of human resilience, ahead of the book’s release in October 2025.
Canon’s presence at the festival will also include professional services for accredited photographers, with Canon Professional Services (CPS) offering free equipment maintenance and expert consultations. Visitors will be able to try Canon’s latest gear and print portfolio images using the brand’s fine art technology.
“In both of this year’s grants, we saw deeply emotional storytelling and strong generational themes,” said Ingrid Masachs, Canon EMEA Marketing Director. “Canon remains committed to empowering bold voices and preserving the moments that shape our world.”
