Apple has rolled out the Release Candidate (RC) versions of its upcoming software updates, including iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe, and tvOS 26. For the past few months, these updates have been available to developers and public beta testers in earlier beta builds, offering a preview of what is to come.
The RC release marks the final stage of testing before public availability. Apple typically intends RC builds to be the same versions that will be released to all users, barring any last-minute issues.
Why the RC Release Matters
The purpose of the RC is to allow testers to identify any final bugs or performance problems that may have slipped through earlier beta testing. If Apple uncovers significant issues during this phase, it could decide to release a second RC build before the official rollout.
The company’s aim is to ensure that the software made available to the general public is as stable and reliable as possible, providing a smooth upgrade experience for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV users.
macOS Tahoe and App Readiness
macOS Tahoe is a key part of this year’s update cycle. Developers are expected to use the RC period to finalise their apps for compatibility and take advantage of new system features. This stage is critical to ensuring apps run seamlessly when the public release goes live.
Availability for Testers
If you are already participating in Apple’s beta programme, the RC versions should now appear in your device settings. iPhone and iPad users can check under Settings > General > Software Update, while Mac users will find the update in System Settings > General > Software Update.
The official release of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe, and related updates is expected to follow soon, likely within days, unless unforeseen issues delay the schedule.
