Tatu City has graduated 100 Grade 7 and 8 learners from its After-School Artificial Intelligence (AI) Program, marking a fivefold expansion of the initiative as the city invests in preparing young people from the surrounding community for a technology-driven future.

The 100 graduates, drawn from Tatu Primary School, a public school within Tatu City serving children from the neighbouring BTL and Ruturo communities, participated in the program’s second and third cohorts. They join the inaugural cohort of 20 learners who graduated in October 2025, bringing the total to 120 graduates.

Tatu City aims to reach 1,000 young learners through the program in the longer term, expanding access to digital skills and emerging technologies among children who may otherwise have limited opportunities for technology-focused learning.

During the program, learners developed digital literacy skills, explored AI-assisted learning and gained practical exposure to emerging technologies. At the graduation, students presented projects demonstrating how they had applied the knowledge and skills acquired during the program.

“Technology is changing how we live and work, and we want the communities around Tatu City to be participants in that future, not spectators,” said Linda Nyaseda, Chief Operating Officer, Kenya, Tatu City. “Growing this program from 20 learners last year to 100 this year demonstrates what is possible when we give young people early access to digital skills and the confidence to use technology creatively. As Tatu City grows as a hub for technology and data infrastructure, we are equally committed to developing local talent that can benefit from the opportunities being created here.”

The After-School AI Program forms part of Tatu Reach, Tatu City’s community development initiative, and is delivered in partnership with organisations that provide curriculum, tutors, mentorship and equipment, including Food Advice, Power Learn Project, Qhala, NGEDA and CCI Global.

The program was launched in 2025 to bridge the digital divide by providing public-school learners with practical access to technology education. Its expansion comes as Tatu City strengthens its position as East Africa’s data centre hub, attracting major digital infrastructure investments and creating demand for increasingly specialised technology skills.

The After-School AI Program complements Tatu City’s wider investment in education, skills development and community empowerment. Since 2023, the Tatu Training Institute has provided free vocational skills training to more than 600 community members, while Tatu City’s school feeding program has delivered more than two million nutritious meals to learners. Tatu Rugby also provides young people with sports coaching, mentorship and life skills.

Tatu City’s growing education ecosystem also includes Wellington College International Kenya, which is scheduled to open in September 2028. The school announced the appointment of Gareth Parker-Jones as Founding Master, ahead of his arrival in Kenya in September 2027. Wellington College International Kenya will bring the heritage and educational standards of one of the United Kingdom’s leading independent schools to Tatu City.
