Airtel Africa has launched Telesonic, a new service focused on providing top-notch fiber bandwidth across Africa. They’re using both ground fiber assets and submarine cable systems to meet the increasing demand for wholesale data services.

They’re planning to set up local entities in important markets where Airtel Africa operates. These entities will manage all fiber assets and handle the operational side of the wholesale business. This move is expected to have a positive, long-term impact on Africa, improving quality of life and boosting economies.

Telesonic already has an extensive fiber network across the continent. They’ve also invested in the 2Africa submarine cable system, which is set to be the most comprehensive submarine cable in Africa and the Middle East. This project aims to provide seamless connectivity between Africa and Europe, benefiting sectors like education and healthcare.

Telesonic will offer various products including leased lines, internet access, IP services, and MPLS services through its network of over 75,000 kilometers of terrestrial fiber across Airtel Africa’s 14 markets.

Airtel Africa’s Group CEO, Segun Ogunsanya, stated that this launch highlights Airtel Africa’s commitment to addressing Africa’s digital needs. They aim to empower businesses, education, healthcare, and communities with cutting-edge fiber-optic solutions. This investment is seen as a technological advancement and a catalyst for progress, connecting people and ideas across borders.
