Absa Bank Kenya has unveiled the “Change Your Story” campaign, an initiative designed to encourage consumers to shift towards digital banking channels and card payments. This campaign aligns with Absa’s broader mission to promote financial inclusion while enhancing customer experience.
In a bid to make digital banking more appealing, the bank is offering exciting rewards to customers who engage with its digital and card-based services. The promotion will run until 31 December 2024, giving participants a chance to win prizes, including three grand prizes of KES 1 million each. In addition, weekly draws will feature vouchers for shopping, dining, and weekend getaways.
To enter the draw, new customers must open an Absa account and obtain a debit card or a new credit card. Existing and new customers can boost their chances of winning by conducting the following qualifying transactions:
- Spending at least KES 1,000 on a debit or credit card, either online or in-person.
- Depositing a minimum of KES 10,000 into their current or savings account weekly.
- Completing five weekly transactions on the Absa Kenya App, Internet Banking, or through USSD (*224#).
Speaking about the campaign, Moses Muthui, Consumer Banking Director at Absa Bank Kenya, highlighted the significance of this initiative in driving a shift from cash-based to digital payments. “The ‘Change Your Story’ campaign is aligned with our brand promise and goes beyond simply rewarding our customers. It seeks to bridge the gap in digital banking among Kenyans, promoting secure, convenient, and user-friendly digital and card transactions,” Muthui said.
He added that this effort is part of Absa’s ongoing commitment to customer-centric innovation. By encouraging card usage and digital transactions, the bank hopes to create a more inclusive financial ecosystem where each transaction can help change lives. “Through this, we are rewarding those who engage with us while simultaneously raising awareness of the benefits of card usage for both customers and non-customers,” he remarked.
In addition to the grand prizes, participants stand a chance to win trips to the Masai Mara, Ol Pejeta, Amboseli National Park, Nairobi National Park, as well as fine dining and fuel vouchers.
Despite the growing use of digital payment methods, Kenya still faces a relatively low card usage rate. According to data from the Central Bank of Kenya, there were 4.39 million card transactions as of February 2024. Yet, the 2024 KPMG Kenya Banking Industry Customer Experience Survey reveals that only 44% of the 39 million customers served by banks in Kenya utilise a credit or debit card. Absa Bank aims to address this slow adoption through initiatives such as “Change Your Story.”
