In celebration of World Literacy day, BIC recently concluded the sixth edition of its Buy Me and BIC Will Donate a Peninitiative in Kenya, in partnership with CFK Africa. The initiative aims to support education access and help reduce the burden of basic school supply shortage. This year, the initiative resulted in equipping 300,000 students with the necessary writing tools for academic performance. Since 2020, the initiative donated over 2 million writing tools to over 1.5 million students.

Commenting on the success of the program, Paloma Lengema, General Manager, BIC East Africa, said: “Providing students with the tools they need to show up and participate in school is a promise that we are proud to keep. As a global stationery manufacturer, our commitment to education and learners is part of our DNA. We are proud of how many students we have reached since the inception of this program and the impact it has had on students’ learning journey. Year-on-year, we see the value this brings to the community; enabling consumers to partake in supporting learners in need, and equipping students with one of the necessary tools to access education.”

“Learning materials are an everyday need, but they can easily be overlooked when we talk about access to education. Partnerships such as this allow us to respond to those practical needs while keeping learners at the center of the work we do,” mentioned the CFK Africa representative, Mediatrix Tuju.

Christopher Barassa, Director Genesis Joy Project where the event took place mentioned: “For our learners, having their own writing materials makes a practical difference in the classroom. It allows them to participate without interruption and gives them the confidence to complete their work. We are grateful for partners like BIC that enable us to support our students further to provide a comprehensive learning journey.”

Buy Me and BIC Will Donate a Pen is one of many education-driven initiatives that BIC runs across Kenya and the wider East Africa region. Express Myself with My BIC Pen is another one of Kenya’s flagship initiatives which aims to encourage students to express themselves through writing, drawing, and creativity.
