Carrefour Kenya, operated by Majid Al Futtaim, has entered into a strategic partnership with Equity Bank to enhance customer payment experiences by enabling American Express (AMEX) card payments across all Carrefour stores in the country.

The announcement was made last week during a visit by Equity Bank’s leadership team to the Carrefour Kenya offices. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in expanding seamless, secure, and convenient payment options for Carrefour customers.

Speaking during the event, Christophe Orcet, Regional Director – East Africa, Majid Al Futtaim Retail, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are always looking for ways to offer our customers seamless payment experiences, and this partnership presents an incredible opportunity to enhance convenience, security and satisfaction in every transaction.”

The official signing of the partnership agreement was overseen by key figures from both organisations. Eva Ngigi, Group Director of Payments at Equity Bank, signed the agreement in the presence of Christophe Orcet; David Bagenda, Commercial Director at Equity Bank; and Rachid Nouri, Vice President of Finance at Carrefour Kenya.

Also present was Misheck Gathiti, Head of Merchant Acquiring at Equity Bank, who joined the leaders for a live demonstration of the American Express Card in use at a Carrefour store, together with Reema Makwana, Senior Treasury Manager – Africa Region, Majid Al Futtaim.

The new payment option is expected to offer increased flexibility and satisfaction to customers, while reinforcing both brands’ commitment to innovative, customer-centric solutions.

The partnership underscores Equity Bank’s continued drive to expand its payments portfolio and Majid Al Futtaim’s mission to deliver world-class retail experiences in East Africa.
