Are Facebook and Instagram down? If you’ve been experiencing issues with these Meta-owned social media platforms, you’re not alone. Here’s the latest update on the outage:

The Outage Details

  • Timing: On Tuesday, March 5, around 6 p.m. East African Time (EAT), both Facebook and Instagram services went down for many users.
  • User Reports: According to Down Detector, there has been a surge in user-reported outages. As of approximately 6:30 p.m. EAT, the number of outage reports for Facebook exceeds 300,000, while Instagram’s reports are nearing 50,000.
  • Frequent Occurrence: Simultaneous outages affecting both Facebook and Instagram are not uncommon. Sometimes these disruptions last for several hours, while other times they are resolved more quickly.

What Can You Expect?

  • Service Interruptions: Users have reported issues such as being unable to log in, comment, or access the apps.
  • Previous Instances: This isn’t the first time both platforms have faced simultaneous outages. Meta, the parent company, is likely working to restore services promptly.
