Glee Hotel Nairobi has made history by becoming the first independent hotel in Kenya to receive the prestigious Executive Level Certification from Safehotels Alliance, the highest global standard for hotel safety and security.

The certification places Glee Hotel among a select group of elite properties worldwide and signals its readiness to host high-level international guests, diplomatic delegations, and global business travellers. This recognition comes after a comprehensive, unannounced audit conducted by independent safety professionals from the Sweden-based Safehotels Alliance. The auditors checked in as ordinary guests and assessed the hotel’s preparedness through real-time evaluation.

“In a city full of great hotels, safety is what sets us apart,” said Judy Macharia, Spokesperson for Glee Hotel Nairobi. “This certification is a signal to the world that Glee is ready for the highest level of global engagement, from diplomatic delegations to international boardrooms.”

Glee Hotel underwent extensive evaluation in areas including guest and property safety, fire safety procedures, emergency response planning, physical security, staff training, and compliance documentation. To meet the demanding criteria of Executive Level Certification, the hotel had to go beyond basic compliance, demonstrating a proactive and innovative approach to risk management.

Key to its success was the integration of cutting-edge digital safety infrastructure. The hotel features real-time emergency communication systems for guests and staff, centralized fire alarm panels with automated alerts, digital access control through mobile keys and key cards, and smart surveillance systems. Additionally, Glee has adopted robust cybersecurity protocols and digital tracking of drills, equipment maintenance, and safety training sessions.

Glee Hotel’s commitment to excellence extends beyond safety. It has taken significant strides in environmental sustainability, embracing solar energy, operating its own water treatment plant, using electric golf carts for transportation within the compound, and installing LED lighting throughout the premises. The hotel also maintains an organic farm nearby to reduce carbon emissions related to food transportation and is preparing to launch its own water bottling plant. Plastic use across operations is being actively reduced as part of a move toward fully sustainable hospitality.

The Executive Level Certification is valid through April 2026 and includes annual reassessments to ensure continued adherence to evolving global safety and security standards.

This achievement is expected to draw increased attention from international organisations, multinational corporations, and diplomatic missions operating in Nairobi. It strengthens Kenya’s position as a destination that meets the highest expectations of global travellers—secure, smart, and sustainability-driven.
