The Ministry of Education has announced the introduction of mid-year national examinations for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

“Starting this year and following extensive stakeholder consultations, I wish to announce that the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will introduce a mid-year series of the KCSE examination to be administered in July every year,” said Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba on Thursday during the release of the 2024 KCSE examination results.

The Cabinet Secretary noted that the government has been continually enhancing measures to ensure high levels of efficiency and effectiveness in the administration of national examinations.

“The mid-year examination will target candidates wishing to repeat the KCSE examination, as well as those who may have missed it due to sickness or unexpected hardships. Adult candidates are also encouraged to register for the exam,” he added.

This announcement comes as it has been revealed that the KCSE examinations will only be conducted for the next three years before the country transitions fully to a new system.

“I wish to remind the public that the last KCSE examination will be administered in 2027. Any person wishing to repeat the exam either fully or partially should take advantage of the remaining three chances to do so,” said KNEC CEO Dr. David Njengere.
