We all have that one dream we keep pushing forward: “Ipo siku nitanunua plot,” “one day I’ll build my house,” or “nitafanya wedding yangu proper.”
But between rent, school fees, emergencies and everyday life, that “one day” can easily remain just that.
Liberty Life Kenya has now launched Secure Plan, a savings and protection solution aimed at helping Kenyans put a clear date and financial plan behind their long-term goals.
The plan is designed for people saving towards major life milestones including buying land, building a home, starting a business, furthering their education, planning a wedding or securing their family’s future.
Speaking during the launch, Liberty Kenya Group CEO Kieran Godden said many people do not stop dreaming, but often lose confidence in their ability to consistently work towards those dreams when unexpected life events happen.
“Secure Plan is designed around that reality. It allows customers to move from saying ‘one day’ to identifying what they want to achieve, putting a date to it and having a financial plan that is designed to protect the way,” Godden said.
Unlike ordinary saving options, Secure Plan combines savings, life assurance and a guaranteed maturity benefit. Customers can also choose added protection for critical illness, permanent total disability, accidental death and retrenchment.
The plan runs for between five and 20 years, with sums assured ranging from KSh250,000 to KSh100 million. Customers can adjust their premiums and corresponding cover as their financial situation changes.
It is open to individuals from age 18, with joint-life cover available. Parents can also take cover for children from birth to 18 years, subject to the policy terms.
Liberty says the product recognises that while many Kenyans save through chamas, SACCOs and money market funds, long-term plans can be interrupted by sudden expenses or a change in income.
So, if you have been saying “one day nitajenga nyumba yangu,” perhaps it is time to ask yourself: what date are you working towards?
