Limuru Country Club will tomorrow, Friday, 16 October, host the Golf Fore Tee-Tees Tournament, an initiative led by breast cancer survivor Wambui Gitonga in partnership with well-wishers to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The tournament seeks to bring together golf, wellness and advocacy to raise awareness about breast cancer, encourage early screening and celebrate the courage and resilience of patients and survivors.
The event has attracted more than 250 participants, including representatives from corporates across the banking, healthcare, telecommunications, public relations and marketing sectors. Confirmed participants and supporting organisations include Oxygène Marketing and Communication, a key sponsor of the tournament, The Nairobi South Hospital, PKF, NCBA, KCB, Faraja, Safaricom, Gulf Energy, Vivo Energy, National Bank and DTB Bank, among others.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Nick Wachira, Managing Director at Oxygène Marketing and Communication said the organisation was proud to support an initiative that uses sports to champion an important health cause and create a positive impact in the community.
“We believe that meaningful partnerships go beyond business to create lasting social impact. We are proud to support the Golf Fore Tee-Tees Tournament because it brings people together around a cause that affects many families. Through this sponsorship, we hope to contribute to greater breast cancer awareness, encourage conversations about early screening and celebrate the strength and resilience of those affected by the disease,” said Wachira.
Wambui Gitonga, the tournament’s founder and a breast cancer survivor, said the initiative was inspired by the need to raise awareness, encourage early detection and offer hope to those affected by breast cancer.
“As a breast cancer survivor, I understand the importance of awareness, early screening and having a strong support system throughout the journey. I initiated Golf Fore Tee-Tees to use the power of golf and community to encourage more people to prioritise their health, seek screening early and support those affected by breast cancer. Beyond the game, this tournament is about celebrating survivors, inspiring hope and reminding everyone that no one should face this journey alone,” said Gitonga.
Beyond raising awareness, the tournament provides participating organisations with an opportunity to network, strengthen partnerships and advance their corporate social responsibility (CSR) objectives by supporting health awareness and community wellness.
The event underscores the role of partnerships between businesses, healthcare providers and individuals in advancing public health advocacy, while using sport as a platform to bring communities together for a shared cause.
Through the Golf Fore Tee-Tees Tournament, the organisers hope to sustain conversations around breast cancer awareness, promote a culture of preventive healthcare and inspire collective action in support of patients and survivors.
