President Dr. William Samoei Ruto is expected to preside over the grand culmination of the 10th edition of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme (KICP) this Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Kaptarkok Primary School in Keiyo South.
The week-long environmental and sports extravaganza, which kicked off on July 4, aims to accelerate Kenya’s ambitious 15 billion national tree-growing target while fostering climate resilience through sports tourism.
A Week of High-Octane Action
The conservation week opened on a high note last Saturday with the grueling 80-kilometre Kaptagat Cycling Challenge. The high-altitude race, which attracted top-tier cyclists, was flagged off at the Kaptagat Farm Resort, setting the stage for a unique fusion of environmental activism and athletic endurance.
Corporate bodies will take center stage on Friday, July 10, during a dedicated Corporate Tree-Growing Exercise across key degraded forest blocks, including Penon and Kapkoi in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The Grand Finale
Saturday’s main celebrations will feature a massive community tree-planting drive alongside the highly anticipated Kaptagat Forest Marathon and Eco-Races.
Athletes and conservation enthusiasts will participate in a 10 km Fun Run and a 3–5 km Children’s Eco-Race. Registration for the races remains open on the official Kaptagat portal, with fees ranging between KES 300 and KES 1,000.
Local organizers have confirmed that entry to the main ceremony and tree-planting sites is free to the public, urging residents from Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties to turn out in large numbers to support the ecosystem restoration framework.
