In a harrowing turn of events, the missing head of Rita Waeni, a Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) student brutally murdered last week, was discovered in the Ite dam in Ruaka, Kiambaa at about 5pm today.
The investigation unfolded as police retrieved Rita’s head, along with other belongings, from the dam, marking a crucial breakthrough in the case. The crime scene in Kiambaa, Kiambu County, now serves as the focal point for detectives as they meticulously pursue leads to apprehend the suspected serial killer.
Rita Waeni’s journey from Syokimau to Roysambu to meet an individual ultimately led to her tragic demise. Reports suggest that the perpetrator allegedly butchered her in an AirBnB in Roysambu, leaving behind dismembered parts in the apartment while absconding with her head.
A significant development in the investigation is the arrest of a suspect who was apprehended with a Mozambican passport while attempting to board a plane. Interrogation at the airport led to his transfer to Kasarani Police Station, pending identification and further investigations.
The family’s anguish intensified as it was revealed that the killers had demanded a ransom of Ksh 500,000 for the release of the fourth-year student. The demand, conveyed through Rita’s phone number, prompted her family to report the matter to the police and DCI, initiating a comprehensive investigation. Unfortunately, the family did not receive further details about the ransom, and certain demands were made after Rita had already been murdered.
This tragic incident not only highlights the heinous nature of the crime but also underscores the need for heightened security measures and public awareness. The community remains on edge as law enforcement intensifies efforts to bring the perpetrator to justice, providing a semblance of closure to Rita Waeni’s grieving family and friends.
