Starehe Boys’ Centre, celebrating its 65th anniversary, has launched an ambitious campaign to raise Ksh 65 million for its endowment fund. The fund is designed to secure the institution’s future by providing perpetual scholarships to 65 bright but financially disadvantaged students, reinforcing the school’s founding mission of offering quality education to those in need.
The endowment initiative, spearheaded by Starehe alumni through the Grifin Memorial Endowment Trust (GMET), is a strategic move to sustain the school’s legacy of academic excellence and social impact. “We are immensely proud to celebrate 65 years of transforming lives,” said Fred Okono, Director of Starehe Boys’ Centre, during a cheque presentation at the school’s term reopening. “As we mark this milestone, our focus is on securing Starehe’s future by ensuring continued support for bright, needy students.”
Justice Nzioki wa Makau, President of the Old Starehian Society, emphasized the importance of alumni contributions: “Supporting the endowment fund is crucial to ensuring that future generations have the same opportunities we had at Starehe.”
As part of the anniversary celebrations, the Centre is organising a series of events to highlight its achievements and galvanize support for the fundraising campaign. Starehe Boys’ Centre remains one of Kenya’s top-performing schools, with alumni who have made significant contributions locally and internationally. The endowment fund is positioned as a key initiative to sustain this legacy for generations to come.
