Safaricom has launched Ziidi Trader, a new investment platform on the M-PESA app developed in partnership with the Nairobi Securities Exchange, marking a major expansion of mobile based investing in Kenya.

The platform allows Kenyans to buy and sell shares listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange directly from their mobile phones, bringing capital markets closer to everyday investors through a secure and easy to use digital experience.

Ziidi Trader operates under the oversight of the Capital Markets Authority, a move aimed at strengthening investor protection, transparency and market integrity while promoting informed, long term investing through disclosures and education.

The launch represents the next phase of Safaricom’s Ziidi Investment Platform, following the rollout of Ziidi Money Market Fund and Ziidi Shariah. The addition of Ziidi Trader expands the ecosystem from saving and Shariah compliant investing to full stock market participation within the M-PESA environment.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa described the platform as a milestone in widening wealth creation opportunities. He said Ziidi Trader builds on eighteen years of M PESA transformation by extending its impact to how Kenyans grow their wealth, adding that the company aims to make investing simple, convenient and accessible everywhere.

By integrating NSE trading into M-Pesa, Ziidi Trader enables users to buy and sell shares, monitor portfolios and access market insights in one place. Customers can begin investing from as little as one share after accepting the platform terms within the Financial Services section of the M-PESA app.

Nairobi Securities Exchange CEO Frank Mwiti said the partnership helps bring the stock market closer to ordinary Kenyans and diaspora investors. He added that making NSE trading available through M-PESA makes it easier for more people to invest and play an active role in the country’s economic growth.

Beyond equities, Ziidi Trader also enables customers to invest in corporate bonds, giving investors a wider range of portfolio diversification options within Kenya’s financial markets.

The new platform aligns with Safaricom’s broader smartphone and digitisation agenda and complements ongoing efforts by the Nairobi Securities Exchange to modernise market access and promote investment education. The partners say the collaborative approach will allow the platform to evolve further and accommodate more players from across the investment ecosystem.

Ziidi Trader is now live on the M-PESA app, offering millions of Kenyans a fully digital route to participate in capital markets and build long term wealth.
