Map View, integrated into the SmartThings app, simplifies home management by transforming real floor plans into virtual images. Users can effortlessly oversee their devices and adjust various settings including lighting, temperature, air quality, and energy consumption from anywhere, at any time.

Addressing the challenge of managing the growing array of connected devices in modern homes, Map View eliminates the hassle of locating individual devices by providing users with a comprehensive overview of their entire home layout. The feature updates in real-time as more devices are connected, ensuring seamless integration and control.

Enhanced 3D Experience

Unlike its predecessor, which was limited to 2D models, the updated 3D Map View leverages Spatial AI in Samsung devices, such as the Bespoke Jet Bot™, utilizing LiDAR sensors to accurately measure and map a home’s layout in three dimensions. This advancement allows users to gain a deeper understanding of their home’s spatial conditions with precision.

Expanded Functionality

The latest version of Map View boasts an enhanced filter function for efficient device monitoring and control. Furthermore, Samsung plans to introduce AI characters, unveiled at CES 2024, by the end of the year, enhancing the user experience with personalized smart services.

Accessibility and Expansion

Available through the SmartThings app on both Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as TVs, Map View’s accessibility will be further expanded with controls through additional hubs like Family Hub™ refrigerators in the first half of the year. Originally launched in Korea and the United States, Map View is now accessible globally to all SmartThings users.

Future Developments

Samsung is collaborating with construction companies to extend Map View’s capabilities beyond homes to apartments and office spaces. The company aims to create smarter environments for customers worldwide by adding functionality such as an optimized user experience for large screens and Quick Control for easy access to key functions.

In a statement, Seungbeom Choi, Head of Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics, expressed the company’s commitment to enhancing customer experiences: “Samsung is constantly working to enable customers to control their home devices without any inconvenience at any time and place, and Map View is the result of these efforts. We will continue to introduce a variety of relevant services and features so our customers can enjoy optimal smart home experiences with a better life.”

Samsung’s pioneering efforts in smart home technology continue to push boundaries, promising a future where seamless connectivity and intuitive control redefine the way we interact with our living spaces.
