Glovo has released insights into what Pizza consumption in Kenya has been like over the last 12 months on the occasion of International Pizza Day today, 9 February.

The data by Glovo shows chicken pizza was the most ordered flavour, with over 15,960 deliveries, followed by Pepperoni and Margarita. This also shows that Kenyans love chicken compared to supreme pizza –based on pork and beef, which is the favourite in Ghana.

Data shows that Kenyans are big fans of this Italian product and, in this 12-month period, they have ordered more than 135,000 pizzas, which means that Glovo delivered 370 pizzas per day or 15 pizzas per hour in the country. The golden minute consumption was on Huduma day, last year on 10th October, at 14:48h where 36 pizzas were ordered at that particular minute.

Tuesday was the day with the highest pizza consumption, accounting for 33% of the total orders, followed by Sundays as the second most in-demand option, with 17% of the total. This could be attributed to the fact that on Tuesdays and Thursdays, there is the ‘buy one get one free’ offer where several Glovo partners offer 2×1 deals, making it the perfect day for people to order pizza.

“Glovo has partnered with key pizza outlets to support the growth of the delivery industry. We are seeing more customers opt to make their orders online, as evidenced by the number of pizzas we have delivered in the last 12 months, says Caroline Mutuku, General Manager of Glovo Kenya. “

Nairobi and Mombasa were the top two cities with the highest pizza consumption while the user who ordered the most pizzas placed 124 during this one-year period. All this data is not surprising since, through the recently launched Glovo Delivered study, in which Glovo reveals the annual consumption of its users in the app, we know that along with hamburgers and local food, pizza was one of the products with the highest consumption and growth during 2022. In terms of local gastronomy, Glovo delivered more than 14,000 plates of chapati during the last year.

Whether you prefer classic Margherita, meat-lover or veggie pizza, there is a pizza for everyone. In honour of World Pizza Day, gather your friends and family, indulge in your favourite pizza or try something new.

This day is all about celebrating the joy of pizza and Glovo has partnered with Pizza Hut, Pizza Mojo, and Debonairs, among others to offer 2×1 deals.
