The two-day summit brought together regulators, policymakers, civil society groups and industry experts to explore ways of strengthening online safety as digital platforms grow across the region.

Opening the summit, Kenya’s ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo said collaboration between governments and the private sector is essential in managing the risks that come with rapid technological change.

“As we embrace the opportunities of the digital era, we must also protect our citizens by advancing responsible innovation and strong partnerships,” he said.

Discussions during the summit focused on AI governance frameworks, youth protection online and responsible technology policies.

For technology platforms, cooperation with governments is becoming increasingly important as countries across Africa develop regulations to guide the safe use of AI and social media.

TikTok said the summit is part of its broader effort to strengthen dialogue with policymakers and ensure that digital innovation grows alongside strong safety protections.
