Huawei Cloud hosted a successful Spark Discovery Kenya Media & Entertainment Summit in Nairobi. The summit culminated in the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Huawei, leading new media platform Mango TV, and prominent Kenyan media houses, including Royal Media Services, and Standard Group. According to the agreement, all parties will actively work together to promote cultural exchanges and media industry cooperation between China and Kenya. This strategic collaboration leverages Huawei Cloud’s leading audio and video cloud services and advanced media infrastructure, empowering Kenyan media houses to adopt cutting-edge technologies, drive innovation, and deliver exceptional experiences.

“AI is fundamentally transforming the media and entertainment industry,” said Gao Fei, President of Huawei Eastern Africa Region. “We recognize that African media companies are actively embracing AI-powered new media initiatives. Huawei, with its 26-year presence in Kenya, is committed to providing a digital ecosystem platform that fosters collaboration between Kenyan and Chinese industry peers.”

Timothy Owase, CEO of Kenya Film Commission, representing the Hon. Ababu Namwamba, CS for Youth affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Republic of Kenya, was the Chief Guest at the Ceremony. He highlighted that: “the Kenyan government recognizes the importance of the digital space as a critical distribution channel for content that emerges from the creative industries. It is critical that we all put our efforts towards seeing how we are able to have products that can go across the World. This can be done with collaboration and partnerships. I want to encourage the Chinese businesses and Kenyan businesses to collaborate, especially in the creative industries.”

He concluded: “I welcome Mango TV to the Kenyan landscape and mention Huawei for the effort you have put in place in terms of what you are providing through Research & Development and the kind of ideas, products and solutions that you are putting into the market”.

Looking ahead, Huawei will ramp up its cloud investment in Kenya. This commitment translates into providing the leading AI technologies, a wider range of industry-specific applications, and enhanced customer service. Ultimately, these efforts aim to solidify a foundation for the sustainable development of Kenya’s digital economy.
