Kenya Premier League leaders KCB FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Kenya Police FC in a riveting league fixture played at the Dandora Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

After today’s result, the bankers maintained their top spot in the current Kenya Premier League table with 21 points after 10 matches played so far. They have only lost once this campaign.

Speaking after the match, KCB FC Head Coach Patrick Odhiambo said: “I am not pleased with this result. We wanted to secure maximum points against Police FC. My players did well but they could not convert the open chances especially in the second half of the game. We know that we need to keep the momentum going by winning every match.”

The bankers opened the scoring three minutes into the game through the league’s top scorer Francis Kahiro who bagged his seventh goal of the season today. Coach Odhiambo was cautious enough to sub off the striker before the halftime break after picking up a yellow card.

KCB created numerous chances in the first half of the match but the strikers could not find the back of the net, Job Ochieng’s heroic saves kept the scoreline 1-0 in favor of KCB at the half-time break.

Gaffer Patrick Odhiambo introduced Farraj Ominde who replaced Michael Mutinda, Derrick Otanga who came on for Patrick Odhiambo and Joshua Nyatini who replaced Rodgers Angal added firepower to the Ruaraka-based side in the second half of the game but still could not score.

Striker Derrick Otanga failed to score from an open chance and Joshua Nyatini was denied by Ochieng, who was arguably the man of the match following his excellent display between the sticks.

“We need to score many goals to keep winning matches. Our strikers need to work extra hard on their finishing. We are in a good position currently but we are not getting carried away because the season is still fresh. We will continue focusing on one game at a time,” noted captain Michael Mutinda.

KCB will resume action on Saturday, November 30, when they take on Bidco United at the Sportpesa Arena in Murang’a County.
