Kenya Airways and Air Tanzania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation and enhance air connectivity across East and Southern Africa.

The agreement, formalised at the Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam, sets the stage for increased collaboration between the two national carriers in a move aimed at promoting cooperation over competition.

Key areas of partnership include human resource training, aircraft maintenance, technical and engineering support, cargo operations, safety, and innovation. The two airlines will also collaborate on Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

“This partnership underscores our commitment to building regional capacity to support economic growth, trade, and tourism across East Africa,” said Allan Kilavuka, Group Managing Director and CEO of Kenya Airways. “By collaborating closely with Air Tanzania, we can jointly offer our passengers and cargo clients more flexible and efficient travel solutions.”

Air Tanzania CEO Peter Ulanga described the agreement as “a significant milestone in our efforts to expand our regional presence and better serve the growing demand for air travel in Africa.”

The strategic alliance is expected to create a more integrated and competitive African aviation sector, unlocking new markets and delivering greater benefits to passengers, cargo operators, and regional economies.
