Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has reassured international visitors that Kenya remains a safe travel destination following the country’s first confirmed Ebola case.
Speaking during the official opening of the 16th Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, Miano said the government was working closely with the Ministry of Health to strengthen safety measures and prevent further transmission.
“We have every reason to consider this an isolated case. No effort, and no level of vigilance, will be spared in ensuring that Kenya remains a safe and welcoming destination for every visitor who chooses to come here,” said Miano.
The assurance comes as Kenya hosts a record 10,000 delegates from over 40 countries, alongside more than 400 exhibitors and 250 international travel buyers at the three-day expo running from October 6 to 8, 2026.
Held under the theme “Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence: Shaping the Future of Tourism,” the expo is showcasing how technology can improve tourism marketing, customer experiences and industry growth.
Miano noted that Kenya’s tourism sector continues to record strong growth, with international arrivals reaching 2.7 million and tourism earnings approaching KSh 500 billion.
She urged tourism businesses, including small tour operators and community conservancies, to embrace artificial intelligence and digital platforms to remain competitive.
Meanwhile, Uganda’s State Minister for Tourism, Susan Nakawuki, called for stronger regional cooperation to position East Africa as a leading global tourism destination.
The expo, organised by the Kenya Tourism Board, brings together tourism stakeholders, investors and international buyers to explore new business opportunities and partnerships.
