The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened its application portal for the 2026/2027 Academic Year. Following a briefing with Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, KUCCPS CEO Dr. Agnes Wahome confirmed that the system is now ready to receive applications from the nearly one million candidates who sat for the 2025 KCSE exams.

With the deadline set for May 6, 2026, students have exactly one month to select their preferred degree, diploma, and certificate courses.

Key Statistics from the 2025 KCSE Results

According to the Ministry of Education, the 2025 cohort saw a significant performance boost:

  • Total Candidates: 993,226
  • Direct University Entry (C+ and above): 270,715 students (27.18%)
  • TVET Eligibility: Over 700,000 students qualify for various diploma, certificate, and artisan courses.

How to Apply via the KUCCPS (KUPPS) Portal

To ensure a smooth application process and avoid the last-minute system congestion often seen in previous years, follow these essential steps:

  1. Access the Portal: Visit the official KUCCPS Student Portal.
  2. Login Credentials: Use your KCSE Index Number, KCSE Year (2025), and your password. (Your initial password is often your Birth Certificate number or KCPE Index number).
  3. Browse Programmes: Use the “Programmes” tab to view available courses across public and private universities, as well as TVET institutions.
  4. Check Requirements: Ensure your Weighted Cluster Points meet the previous year’s cut-off points for your desired course.
  5. Submit Choices: Enter the program codes in the “Application/Revision” tab. You can select up to four options for your preferred degree.
  6. Payment: A non-refundable processing fee is required. Follow the M-Pesa instructions provided on the portal to validate your application.

Important Updates on Funding and Scholarships

Under the current Higher Education Funding model, placement and funding are two distinct steps. Once you are placed by KUCCPS:

  • Public Universities: Students are eligible for Government Scholarships and HELB loans.
  • Private Universities: Students are eligible for HELB loans only.
  • TVET Institutions: Students remain eligible for both scholarships and loans to cover tuition and upkeep.

Pro Tip: Do not wait until the final week. “The portal is designed to handle high traffic, but we encourage students to apply early to allow time for revision if they do not meet the initial cluster requirements for highly competitive courses,” noted Dr. Agnes Wahome.

Latest News: Infrastructure Upgrades

In a related development, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced a digital infrastructure upgrade in 200 sub-county offices. This move is expected to streamline future teacher recruitments and digitize student-teacher data synchronization, further integrating the digital roadmap of Kenya’s education sector.

Need Help?

If you encounter any challenges, KUCCPS officers are stationed at Huduma Centres nationwide, including Nairobi (GPO), Eldoret, Meru, Kisumu, and Mombasa. You can also reach the official help desk at 020 5137400.

Stay tuned to the KUPPS Portal for real-time updates on placement results and revision windows.
