Speaking ahead of the weekend’s tourney, Thika Sports Club Captain Moses Gatonye said: “We are preparing for Saturday’s amateur tournament where we expect over 200 golfers to be part of the event. Thika has become a hub for corporate golf events, our course is in good shape and can host many players. For sure, it will be a competitive tournament and I cannot wait to see who will emerge victorious.”

Action will get underway at 6:30 am for the morning tee before the afternoon tee set for 12:30 pm. Longest hitting Scola Onsongo, Millicent Melo, Tim Kuria, John Okulo, KCB Group CEO Paul Russo and other top amateur players will clash at the lush course.

“KCB’s involvement in golf has never been in question. In the last two decades, we have spent over KShs. 400 million in support of different competitions. Additionally, this investment has been instrumental in allowing golfing enthusiasts to participate in local, regional, and international events to position Kenya on the global map as a golfing destination,”noted KCB Group Director Marketing and Communications Rosalind Gichuru.

The club that produces the winning team at the end of the  series will receive KShs. 1 million towards a sustainability initiative that the club is currently undertaking. They will also get an opportunity to participate in the 2025 Magical Kenya Ladies Open at the Vipingo Ridge in Kilifi County.

On Sunday, KCB will host a junior’s clinic in the morning before a tree planting exercise in the afternoon, an initiative that is aimed at strengthening our environment conservation efforts through the series aligning with the global sustainable goals (SDGs).
