Police reports indicate that at least 15 people lost their lives after a lorry ferrying logs veered off the road and rammed into a matatu belonging to Nyekicha Sacco along the Nyeri–Nyahururu highway on Saturday evening.

The President added that the government is already engaging with victims’ families. “The national government, in conjunction with the county government of Nyeri, is engaging with the affected families and will provide all necessary support during this difficult time. Pole sana,” he said.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also sent his condolences, urging motorists to prioritise safety on the roads.

“Drivers, observe safety precautions. Any time you are on the road, remember your own life, the lives of your passengers and those of other road users, are in your hands,” he cautioned.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua equally mourned the victims and called for greater caution among road users.

“My family and I send our deepest sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones and wish quick recovery to the injured ones,” he said.

Gachagua further urged authorities to improve road safety infrastructure, noting that proper road conditions and signage should be a right for every user.

“One life lost is one too many,” he stated.
