Safaricom PLC (NSE: SCOM) hosted the Safire Connect Forum in Eldoret, convening more than 250 farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, and key stakeholders from the Rift region for a day of knowledge-sharing, empowerment, and business networking.
The forum served as a strategic platform to expose farmers to practical digital tools, financial literacy training, and innovative solutions aimed at transforming small-scale farming into scalable agribusinesses.
“Today, we have been able to equip over 250 farmers with financial tools and digital solutions, knowledge and networks that can help transform their farming into thriving agribusinesses,” said Fawzia Ali-Kimanthi, Chief Consumer Business Officer at Safaricom PLC. “At Safaricom, we are committed to supporting businesses of different kinds as they embrace technology and take their businesses to the next level.”
The Safire Connect Forum featured a diverse mix of partners including Microsoft, DTB Bank, E-Mobilis, Centonomy, Strathmore Business School, TransUnion, and Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr (CDH), who offered expertise ranging from digital skills development to legal advisory for businesses.
Safaricom also showcased a portfolio of innovative products designed to meet the evolving needs of the agricultural sector. These included:
- DigiFarm – an agri-tech platform that provides sustainable financing, access to quality farming inputs, services, and market linkages for smallholder farmers.
- Ziidi MMF, Fuliza ya Biashara, and Pochi la Biashara – digital financial tools supporting business growth and cash flow management.
- Taasi Till and Taasi Pochi – smart tools for financial organisation.
- Lipa na M-PESA – Safaricom’s flagship platform for secure, cashless transactions.
The forum was part of the M-PESA Sokoni – Rift Edition, a week-long celebration of M-PESA @ 18, running from 14th to 19th July. The regional festivities began in Turbo and continue across the Rift Valley with roadshows, customer appreciation events, and community engagement forums like Safire Connect. The initiative underscores Safaricom’s ongoing efforts to deepen digital and financial inclusion across the country.
Through platforms like Safire Connect, Safaricom continues to build the capacity of Kenya’s agricultural sector, equipping farmers with the tools and knowledge needed to compete in an increasingly digital economy.
