Lean Energy Solutions has set a new benchmark in championing Kenya’s clean energy future with the inaugural University Essay Award Ceremony on Renewable Energy, a landmark event at the Kenya School of Government that convened government leaders, academia, students, and energy stakeholders to celebrate the bold ideas of young Kenyans shaping a sustainable tomorrow.

Launched on 30 June 2025, the nationwide competition drew 846 submissions from universities across Kenya, inviting students to present practical, high-impact ideas for accelerating the country’s clean-energy transition. The overwhelming response reflected Generation Z’s determination to play an active role in steering Kenya’s energy future. The programme culminated on 5 September 2025 at the Kenya School of Government, where the top three essays were honoured: Alex Otieno (University of Nairobi) as overall winner (KES 70,000), Esther Awak (Mt. Kenya University) as first runner-up (KES 50,000), and Benedict Kioko (Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology) as second runner-up (KES 30,000).
