Faith to Action Network is set to host a powerful #Tusinormalizeissues Brunch Debate in Nairobi, bringing together faith leaders, influencers, and youth advocates to confront the growing challenge of teenage pregnancy in Kenya.
Themed “Faith and Teenage Pregnancy: Changing the Story,” the event will take place at the iHub offices on James Gichuru Road from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and will be livestreamed across social media platforms to reach audiences nationwide.
The discussion forms part of the Interfaith Adolescent Health Hub Project, which is being implemented in Kilifi and Migori counties. The project seeks to address harmful social norms and foster open, faith-based conversations on adolescent sexuality, responsibility, and empowerment.
According to Faith to Action Network, teenage pregnancy remains a serious concern, especially in Kilifi and Migori, where rates among girls aged 12 to 18 are as high as 71 per cent and 80 per cent respectively. Contributing factors include poverty, harmful cultural practices such as female genital mutilation, and a lack of open parental communication.
Sada Mwajuma, a survivor and youth advocate from Migori County, shared her personal experience, saying,
“Teenage pregnancy is bad. I was married off at 14. I thought I was going for a beauty treatment, unaware it was preparation for my wedding. When I tried to report it to the chief, I found him at my wedding, sharing a meal with my parents.”
The brunch debate will be moderated by journalist and media personality Rawder Kidula, and will feature prominent speakers including DJ Soxxy, Anthony Ndiema, Lofty Matambo, and Kerry Kagiri, all known for championing faith-driven social change.
The panel will explore how religion, culture, and gender norms shape narratives around teenage pregnancy, and how faith institutions can play an active role in ending stigma and promoting solutions.
Event highlights include live audience participation, youth storytelling from Kilifi and Migori, and real-time social media engagement under the hashtag #Tusinormalizeissues.
