The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering the Affordable Housing Programme, noting that implementation is progressing well across the country.
Speaking during an inspection tour of key development projects in Nairobi, Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Charles Hinga said the programme remains central to the Government’s plan to provide decent and affordable homes while creating jobs and supporting economic growth.
The tour brought together more than 45 Principal Secretaries and was led by Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Felix Koskei. The senior government officials visited the City Cotton Area, Kamukunji Park, and the Starehe Affordable Housing Project to assess the progress of ongoing projects.
Addressing the media at the Starehe Affordable Housing Project, PS Hinga urged Kenyans to take advantage of housing units that are already available in different parts of the country.
“The Affordable Housing Programme is progressing well, and housing units are now available across counties in Kenya. I encourage all eligible Kenyans to apply through the Boma Yangu platform and secure an opportunity to own a decent and affordable home,” Hinga stated.
“This programme is transforming lives while creating jobs and driving economic growth,” he added.
The PS further noted that the Government remains focused on accelerating delivery of housing under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda while ensuring quality, affordability, and transparency in the allocation process.
According to the Government, the Affordable Housing Programme is not only aimed at increasing home ownership but also creating employment opportunities across the construction value chain.
The inspection tour also highlighted progress in supporting infrastructure meant to improve urban living standards. These include trunk sewer systems, river training works, non-motorised transport facilities, sports facilities, parks, and an amphitheatre at Kamukunji.
The Government said such infrastructure is part of a wider plan to create integrated and livable urban communities around housing developments.
Officials further reiterated that the Affordable Housing Programme is being rolled out in counties across Kenya and called on more Kenyans to register and apply for the available units through the Boma Yangu platform.
