Nine in ten Kenyan consumers believe new technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) tools, are making online shopping faster and easier, according to a new study by Visa.

The Visa Stay Secure 2026 study found that 91 per cent of consumers in Kenya feel technology has simplified online shopping, pointing to growing expectations for convenient digital experiences.

As more services become accessible through mobile applications, Kenyans are also looking for easier ways to pay for everyday activities, from booking transport to ordering meals.

For people who regularly use services such as Uber and Uber Eats, having a choice of payment options can make a difference, particularly when they do not have cash at hand.

Convenience Beyond Online Shopping

For many Nairobi residents, booking a taxi or ordering food is already part of their routine.

Someone leaving the office late, for instance, may prefer to book an Uber ride and pay using a card rather than worry about finding cash for the journey.

Similarly, a customer ordering lunch through Uber Eats can select an eligible Visa card at checkout, where supported.

Beyond avoiding the inconvenience of handling cash, card payments also allow consumers to keep a record of their transactions.

This can be particularly useful for professionals who frequently travel for work or people who want to monitor how much they spend on transport and meals.

Through their banking applications, customers can review their card payments and use that information when planning their budgets.

Visa’s Role in Everyday Payments

Visa is among the payment technology companies collaborating with digital platforms, including Uber, to support convenient and secure payment experiences.

Through such arrangements, customers can use eligible Visa cards to pay for Uber rides and Uber Eats orders.

This gives consumers another way to complete everyday transactions without relying on physical cash.

While convenience remains important, Visa’s research also suggests that Kenyans want reassurance when making digital payments.

The study found that 30 per cent of consumers would feel more comfortable seeing a familiar, trusted logo when completing an online purchase.

Security Remains Important

As consumers become more accustomed to digital services, ensuring that payments are handled securely remains essential.

Visa uses technologies such as fraud monitoring and encrypted transaction processing to help protect payments made through its network.

These measures are designed to identify potentially suspicious activity and protect payment information during processing.

For consumers, combining convenient payment options with appropriate security measures can make digital services easier to use with confidence.

Whether paying for an Uber ride, ordering dinner through Uber Eats or shopping online, customers want a payment process that is straightforward and dependable.

As digital services become more common in Kenya, payment convenience is likely to remain an important factor in how consumers choose to shop, travel and access everyday services.
